In this role, as a member of the Data Office Data Curation Team, you will handle the interpretation and representation of complex biological and medical data following structured data models and intervene in the definition and creation of required resources in this mission. Your goal will be to make data interoperable and maximise insight into the multiple data types used during the development of clinical products.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Evaluation and interpretation of clinical and scientific data in the context of:
  • Ingestion and representation of multiple data asset types into the AZ data infrastructure.
  • Quality assessment and control of existing data assets.
  • Management and generation of controlled vocabularies and data schemas as required by different use cases.
  • Remediation actions required to ensure full FAIR compliance of existing records.
  • Generation of high-value, enriched data assets through in-depth curation of selected data assets.
  • Continuously improve implementation processes related to data standards & curation and make scientific data FAIR and AI/Analytics-ready, so that data value grows over time. Secure value measurability, and scalability for changes in scope and demand.
  • Collaborate with:
  • TA partners to understand their data representation needs and cover unmet business needs.
  • Data Discovery, Data Asset teams to understand internal and external data landscape and design and implement curation processes
  • IT partners for the implementation of the above-mentioned processes
  • Data Provisioning / Data Assets / Data Strategy teams to understand demand and plan curation activities in consultation with other teams in FAIR Data Services, such as the Reference Data Management Team.
  • Data Policy & Data Governance teams to ensure policy and governance related to data standards implementation & curation are planned for and aligned with.
  • Other members of the Data Office & the DS & AI community to aid the Data FAIRification process.

Essential

  • Relevant degree in Life Sciences, Information/Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, IT, or other related subject area
  • PhD-level experience in the pharma and/or the life sciences sector (PhD not required)
  • 2-3 years of experience in data curation and management, ideally in the healthcare space
  • Operational understanding of common data models, data standards, vocabularies, ontologies etc. and their implementation within a centralized repository
  • Extensive experience working with IT partners in the implementation of data standardization & curation projects
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies
  • Experience in creating system and user documentation artifacts related to data standards implementation & curation
  • Travel – willingness and ability to travel domestically & internationally.
  • Resilience – ability to overcome and motivate others in the face of a changing environment

Desirable

  • Ability to work with high-throughput data ingestion pipelines through command line approaches, with knowledge of Python, R or equivalent coding language
  • Experience with clinical data curation and familiarity with industry standards
